Mary (the incomparable Debra Winger) and Michael (Tracy Letts) have been married for a long time. A long, long time. As sometimes happens in marriages, long or short, they’ve grown bored with each other and emotionally withdrawn. As also sometimes happens, they’ve both begun very serious affairs. Running in parallel without really knowing it, they have both committed to their new paramours and are just about to finally break things off with their spouses. But suddenly, unpredictably, something brings the two of them together again in an impulsive and powerful re-romance. Now they have to admit to their lovers that they are considering returning to the relationship that drove them into their arms in the first place… look, it’s complicated. It’s also poignant and funny and a remarkably open-eyed look at the complexity of the intrigues we get ourselves into, and how little control we can exert over our own feelings. Sometimes we fall in love, sometimes we fall out of love, sometimes we fall back into love again; sometimes it takes decades, sometimes it takes minutes.
