The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

In a globe-trotting assignment that has him skiing off the edges of cliffs and driving a car deep underwater, British super-spy James Bond (Roger Moore) unites with sexy Russian agent Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) to defeat megalomaniac shipping magnate Karl Stromberg, who threatens to destroy New York City with stolen nuclear weapons and found a new society under the sea. Bond's most deadly adversary on the case is Stromberg's henchman – and archetypical Bond heavy – Jaws (Richard Kiel), a seven-foot giant with terrifying steel teeth and a propensity to survive attacks that should be fatal.

Six (or up to nine, depending on how you count) actors have played James Bond on the Silver Screen, but three have really moved the iconic character in a lasting direction. Sean Connery established the tone; Daniel Craig brought a gritty darkness back after years in the wilderness of camp; but Roger Moore brought a versatility and range to Bond that elevated the movies from spy fiction to bigger-than-life superheroism. And The Spy Who Loved Me is the most complete and well-rounded of his outings.
